[Transmission of Epstein-Barr virus specific antigen associated with cell fusion activity].

چکیده

Serological and molecular biological studies have shown an association between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Although it has been shown that the epithelioid tumor cells carry EBV genomes, they are apparently devoid of receptors for EBV. In order to clarify the mechanisms of transfer of EBV genomes to epithelioid tumor cells, we performed the mixculture between human lymphoid cells carrying EBV (P3HR-1) and non-lymphoid cells (2-27 Ad). Transmission of Epstein-Barr virus antigens was demonstrated from P3HR-1 cells to 2-27 Ad cells accompanied with polykaryocytes formation, which was specifically inhibited by human antiEBV sera, indicating that EBV has cell membrane fusion activity.
